Sail Boat Racing with the Hopetown Sailing Club
The Hope Town Sailing Club on Elbow Cay, just five miles from RMHYC’s “home base” at Boat Harbor sponsors cruising sailboat races starting on Boxing Day each winter (that’s December 26th) and continuing every other Wednesday through April. These are low-key events that attract mono-hulls and catamarans, 20-foot boats and 60-foot yachts, stripped-down racers and live-a-boards towing dinghies! All boats are handicapped on modified PHRF ratings and live-aboard contestants, once they’ve raced twice, may qualify for special handicap improvement.
This is a separate organization from RMHYC, but a number of our members are also members of the Hopetown Sailing Club. In addition to racing, HSC has Sunfish available for qualified members to use out of Hopetown Harbor, sponsors an active junior sailing program, and hosts weekly Saturday night socials at their clubhouse through the winter season.
